About Caroline Banka
My garden art began in 2014, when I realized that I couldn’t make anything grow in our huge yard. So I started to create flowers for the yard made with copper stems and topped with glass bowls and plates. At local thrift shops, I find glass pieces that have a floral look. I love the treasure hunt! But not as much as playing with color and painting the glass to suit my fancy.
I visit a local scrapyard to look for copper to make the bases and leaves for the glass flowers. I use sheet copper, copper pipes and copper plumbing parts. Using tin snips, I cut out leaves from sheet copper, then buff the sharp edges and hammer in some texture. I solder the leaves to the flower stem and bring it all together with copper couplers and an acetylene torch.
My flowers are playful and cheerful, and I hope they are beautiful. If Dr. Seuss had a garden, it might look like mine. These are my happy flowers! They make me happy, and I hope they will make you happy too. Sunlight makes the flowers glow, and dappled light creates a lovely effect. The daily changing play of light on the flowers creates a dazzling color show and brings joy to the yard!
Leafy Vines
I also create leafy vines with berries and flowers, using copper wire. These can be mounted on the wall to bring the garden inside. Or mount them around your outer door for a unique entrance. I make custom designs upon request. Take a look at my gallery of leafy vines.
